Forming a bicycle/pedestrian committee in Highland Park/East Liberty

Hello Highland Park & East Liberty neighbors, I recently attended a few meetings of Bike Pittsburgh and two of their bicycle/pedestrian committee neighborhood groups. The idea of these neighborhood-level groups is to gather people interested in and affected by motorist and pedestrian infrastructure. The goal of the committees is to identify, prioritize and advocate for better infrastructure and amelioration of problem areas. I cycle and walk often as a means of commuting and am interesting in forming a group that can work on HP/EL issues. As a cyclist and pedestrian, I think HP is relatively easy to interface with - it's getting in and out of the neighborhood (i.e. through East Liberty) that presents me, at least, with problem zones. At the top of this list for me are (1) lack of a bike lane on Negley, (2) poor traffic light responsiveness to bicycles at EL Blvd and Highland, (3) the awful intersection at Penn and Centre (Target), and (4) pavement issues at Penn and Highland. There are plenty more, of course! I attended a Lawrenceville neighborhood-level meeting, where the results of their efforts was about to culminate in a new bike lane and submission of priority list to Bike Pgh and the city for infrastructural improvements. I think this would be a great step forward for bicyclists, pedestrians, and motorists alike if we could come together to form common priorities to increase safety and movability in our neighborhood and surroundings. I suggest that those who are interested in forming a committee respond to me. I can there create a small separate list-serv group and we can find a time to establish a first meeting for a preliminary conversation.
