Dear Highland Park Neighbors, I am emailing to enlist your help in spreading the word about Hidden Harvest Pittsburgh, an organization founded by myself and my colleague, Rose Smiechowski. It's a simple idea with huge impact for food insecure Pittsburghers. We organize volunteers to harvest registered fruit and nut trees and backyard gardens. The harvest is then distributed equally between tree/garden owner, volunteer harvesters and a local food agency. Right now we are working with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. If you have a fruit tree, nut tree, or garden surplus please consider contacting Hidden Harvest. We will coordinate volunteer harvesters to come and rescue the food and donate it. Trash removal ...

[PennDOT left-cmyk] Traffic Advisory July 11, 2014 Route 8 Butler Street Lane Restriction Monday in Pittsburgh Baker Street Intermittent Stoppages Monday Night Pittsburgh, PA - PennDOT District 11 is announcing a westbound lane closure on Butler Street (Route 8) at One Wild Place in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will occur Monday, July 14, weather permitting. Beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 14 the westbound (inbound) right hand lane on Butler Street will be closed to traffic until 3 p.m. as crews conduct utility location excavation. The current left hand turn lane will be used by all westbound traffic. Motorists will be able to continue westbound on Butler Street or turn onto One Wild Place. Flaggers will assist motorists through the work zone. Additionally, single-lane alternating traffic will occur on Baker Street from 8 p.m. Monday night through 5 a.m. Tuesday morning as crews conduct conduit installation. The work is part of the Route 8 Heths Run Bridge replacement project. The existing bridge built in 1913-14 will be replaced with a new structure. A temporary roadway through the Pittsburgh Zoo parking lot will be implemented for cars and light trucks. Additionally, the project includes reconstruction of 870 feet of Butler Street, improvements on One Wild Place, drainage, and sidewalk and signal upgrades. To help keep motorists informed as work on the Heths Run Bridge continues PennDOT is creating an email distribution list for Route 8 traffic advisories and construction updates. Enroll by sending email addresses to stcowan(a)pa.gov<mailto:stcowan@pa.gov> and writing "Subscribe - Route 8" in the subject line. Motorists are advised to use caution and expect possible delays.
