I'm looking for house cleaner recommendations. From our experience with our current service, I'm determining that we may be more picky than most, especially with regard to how well the floors are mopped (and baseboards dusted, etc). Can anyone recommend a house cleaner or cleaning service that you've found to be particularly attentive to detail? thanks, Rachel

Hello all, I just received a call from a 212 area code number informing me that they've scanned computers in the area and discovered a "secret" virus downloaded to my computer. This is almost certainly a scam. Do not provide them with any personal information or follow the instructions they provide. They are very insistent, so hang up if you must. I tried to be polite, but the person on the line was behaving as though this was a crisis of national security hahaha Keep your friends and families apprised. -Nic

[Highland Park] Info about the Garden Club

Hello again, neighbors. I know that Elisabeth just posted about the Highland Park Garden Club, but I've gotten a good deal of questions about it since my recent garden posting, and wanted to give some more information. The Highland Park Garden Club was started last fall, and right now we have about 15 paid members (it's a $15 annual fee). We are part of the National Federation of Garden Clubs, so we fall under their 501c3. Our members range from people like me, who take care of plants for a living to folks who just really love the outdoors, to those who strive to live as sustainably as possible here within the city and all points in between. We meet on the 3rd Saturday of every month at 10am at the Union Project. We hold a short business meeting, have one or two brief talks/presentations on topics by members, and try to get a local expert in for a longer session on topics ranging from bonsai gardening to floral decoration to rain gardens/rain barrels. We also do community service aimed toward beautification of the area. Last fall, with the help of Boy Scout troop 343 of Morningside, we cleaned up the Negley side of the Union Project. Yesterday, some of our members planted the yellow pansies at the entrance to Highland Park, and we will be creating & placing 20+ floral planters at Bryant Street businesses on May 17th. We will also be doing clean-up on the Stanton side of the Union Project sometime soon. Since, as I said, the club just started up last fall, I think that's pretty amazing! Our next meeting will be Saturday, April 19th at 10:00 am at the Union Project. I'll be talking about proper division of perennials, so bring your questions (or, if you get to them before then, bring some divided perennials and folks might just trade with you!). We'd love to have you new members, but anyone is free to attend the meeting to check us out! Hope to see you ALL there! Rachel

Before we head to the store, I was wondering if anyone in the neighborhood has a gently used or vintage bookcase they plan to sell or get ride of this spring?
