Does anybody know if there will be Christmas trees for sale at the closed school in Morningside this year? Last year was our first time there and we got a beautiful tree. They did mention that they may not be able to use that location again. Does anybody have information about whether or not it's happening? Thanks, Jess

Neighbors in Need Scholars (Shadyside non-profit) - Free SAT tutoring program for Pittsburgh-area students!

Attention Local Residents! Neighbors in Need Scholars is a Pittsburgh non-profit program that aims to democratize SAT prep for all high school students. Our free program, the 1st of its kind, combines live online instruction with content and tools. The pilot program will begin in January 2015. Neighbors in Need was founded by Tom Dickson and Rick Swartz, and is sponsored by Bloomfield-Garfield Corporation. So far, NIN Scholars has helped 14 students improve their SAT scores and their chances of attending college, but we would like to offer that same opportunity to thousands. To further its mission, NIN Scholars has partnered with Pittsburgh Prep and its founder, Master Tutor Hoon Kim (Harvard M.Ed.). Mr. Kim has taught more than 300 students since 2009. Graduates of his program have shown a consistent increase of over 270 points in their SAT performance. The ultimate goals of our program are helping students obtain their "reach" school and to improve the possibility of financial aid. We are currently recruiting local area schools and individual students to participate in our pilot program. The Positive Health Clinic is holding its annual holiday party on December 17 and we are seeking donated raffle or gift items for our clients to make the holidays more festive. Many times our patients are overlooked in the community. The holidays are a lonely time for many of them because of the misconceptions and ignorance they face from people including family and community members. Patients tend to try to rely on each other and often times see themselves as family. We try to provide extra support during the holiday season. "Transfigurations" Show this Saturday

Hello neighbors, This Saturday November 22 at 7:30 pm comedian and Bible scholar Peterson Toscano will present his one person play "Transfigurations: Transgressing Gender in the Bible" in which he explores gender-nonconforming and gender variant characters in the old testament/hebrew bible. I've seen him perform in the past and am really looking forward to this show! The show will take place at Pittsburgh Mennonite Church at 2018 Braddock Avenue 15218. Doors open at 7:00, show starts at 7:30. Suggested donation is $10 adults/$5 children and students. Attached is the press release. Need an usual computer favor

I have a very unusual computer problem and I need someone with a Macintosh or Apple computer. My wife is in charge of a dog club magazine and the editor unexpectedly passed away. To put the magazine together, the editor used InDesign on a MAC. We had asked her daughter to go to her house and download the magazine files she was working on to a newly purchased USB drive. For some unknown reason the daughter had a friend who thought it would be better to use the very, very old LeCie external drive that was attached to the Editor's Mac. They managed to send the drive, cable and power supply to us before the storms hit. Unfortunately I only have PC computers and my PC cannot recognize the Mac formatted LeCie drive. I suspect that the problem might be that the drive was damaged in transit but the only way to check that is to hook it up to a Mac. If I can get it running on the Mac (it is a plug-and-play device) then I can transfer the files to a new drive or stick. The external drive is connected via a firewire lower speed connection. I have tried the library, Kinko's and Staples and other such stores as well as Best Buy. Surprisingly only Best Buy in certain stores has the Mac but they are not allowed to do data transfers. The Apple stores do not permit such things either. That's the reason for coming to the list with this time sensitive matter. Does anyone have a Mac with a firewire port in their home or office that they would be willing to let me use for 15 minutes to connect up the external hard drive to see if the Mac can even read it and, if it can, then transfer the files from the Mac to a stick or a small drive? If anyone knows of another solution I would be glad to hear it. Unfortunately this is a time sensitive matter.
