Hello neighbors! We have a first floor apartment for rent, beginning Sept. 1st. Very nice 2 bedroom apt - spacious, clean, and renovated in 2010. Close to bus lines on Highland and Negley, allowing ready access to Oakland and other East End neighborhoods. First floor of Victorian house has 10’ ceilings and 6’ windows. Lots of light. Built-in bookcases in LR and lovely mantels in the LR and DR. Fireplaces are non-functional. Gas heat and central AC, w/w in LR, DR, hall, & BRs with tile floors at entry and in kitchen and bath. Kitchen is small, but has good cabinet space, newer fridge, gas range, and a dishwasher. Ceiling fans in DR & BRs. Custom mini-blinds on windows and doors. Newer storm doors and Marvin windows with screens. Recently painted in neutral colors. Tenants share free w/d in cellar, fenced backyard, and large side yard with 2nd flr landlords. Space will be allowed for garden, if desired. One off-street parking space is included in the lease.Rent is $950.00 plus electric per month. We pay for gas and water. We will check your references – employer, previous landlord, etc. Clean, vaccinated, housetrained, and leash walked pets (up to 2) are OK – but we will also check their references, e.g. vet, trainer, previous landlord and neighbors. We are looking for a family, professionals, grad students, or other responsible adults. We live on the 2nd floor. We would like to have clean, quiet, friendly people downstairs – who would sign a lease for a year, or preferably, stay longer. We can provide references as well. We are quiet landlords. Dear neighbors - Again on Monday after the garbage men are gone there were remains from where strays and wild animals have gotten into our, and neighbor's, garbage in the back alley behind our home on Callowhill. Please use garbage cans for those items that would attract animals to dig through your garbage, especially if you are leaving it out for days before the pick up. We actually are supposed to put out the garbage the night before, but we have people that simply take things out daily, and in this heat that we have been having it really can stink up the area quickly, so please think about what you might be attracting, as well as keeping the neighborhood clean. The 2nd issue is those who are feeding the squirrels in our neighborhood !!! We continue, along with neighbors that have a garden, to deal with the damage to the plants, as well as having a mess, as the squirrels bury these peanuts, then again in the fall/winter as they dig them back up. They are even going up onto our patio, which is above our garage, and into the planters and pots that we have planted up there. Just as we are not supposed to feed the ducks and geese around the Park area because it will make them dependant, as well as draw more than we would naturally have, this disrupts the natural order of them foraging for food, and what an area can sustain in wild life. [Highland Park] Adorable Kittens in need of good homes

About 7 weeks ago a very sweet, stray cat chose our back deck to have her adorable litter of four kittens under. We have cared for the mother and 4 kittens since their birth. They are one week away from being completely weened and are ready to find homes of their own. We are unable to keep any of the cats (including the mother) due to a child's severe allergy to pets, but we really want to avoid sending them to a shelter.
