Chatham University's F.A.C.E organization (Feminist Activists Creating Equality) is planning a 2-mile Walk for Congo Women on April 14th 2012, located on Chatham University's Campus.**** **** The purpose of this event is to raise awareness of the conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo where women are subjected to brutal gang rape and torture on a daily basis. All proceeds from this event will be sent to the Women for Women International's Congo program. WfWI's program works with the women of the Congo through direct financial assistance, job skills training, rights awareness education, and trauma counseling. More than 31,000 Congolese women have participated and benefited from the program's expansion in 2004.**** **** Registration begins at 9:15 am and the walk begins at 10:00 am on April 14th. Registration for this event will be located in the Jenny King Mellon Library's parking lot (on Chatham University's Campus), which is accessible through Murray Hill Avenue.**** **** Registration fee for this event is $10 dollars for the public, $5 for non-Chatham students, and free for Chatham students with a suggested donation of $5. Walkers are encouraged to ask family members and friends for monetary sponsorship for this worthy cause. [Highland Park] How to make a worm composting bin

For those of you who did not get the worm composting bin, here's how to make one. 1. buy one bin with a lid and another without a lid. 2. Get two big coffee cans 3. Newspaper 4. veg scraps 5. worms Uncle Jim's Red Worms Poke holes in the lid and sides of one bin. Then, with a tool, cut vents, about 1/8 - 1/4 inch wide and almost the entire length of the bin. This vents will enable air circulation and for the castings to fall out and into the lower bin. Take the second bin, without a lid, and place the coffee cans inside. These serve to prop up the top bin and create air space and a place for the castings (and run away worms) to fall. Place the covered bin on the coffee cans. Put shredded slightly dampened newspaper in the top bin, add veg. scraps, worms, cover and put the contraption in the basement. Add veg scraps and sprinkle with water to keep moist. In about a month, you should notice some breakdown. The worms will multiply. Your scraps will turn to compost. Takes TIME. Joan Soulliere
