Hi neighbors, School is in session but it appears some kids are out on an extracurricular field trip. Two "10-12 year olds" (as recounted by painters on a house up the next corner) were seen attempting to break into a recently parked car by the homeowner on Grafton St. near Farragut while both the homeowner and the visiting owner of the car were in the house, then successfully getting into the car in front of the next house. Police responded. Its springtime. Keep an eye out if you're around at home. Andy

[Highland Park] Searching for a Kids Play Gym

Hi neighbors... we are looking to buy a used (but still in good condition) climbing/play gym for our kids ages 3 and 5.... we have a really small one for toddlers, but they have outgrown it and we need the next size up. Something with a slide would be great.... We don't have a huge backyard, so one of those plastic cube things would be ideal.... I just witnessed two young, school age, black kids try the doors of a car parked in front of our house. By the time I got to the porch and yelled at them they had rifled through a neighbors car and were carrying something away. They turned into Sheridan heading South.

I'm quite irritated that the Olga Watkins Band has taken my address from the Highland Park list and has been sending me advertisements directly to my inbox, not through the HP listserv. That was not my understanding of what this email service is for. I emailed on several occasions over the past year and asked to be removed from the spamming list, but that has not happened. I guess it's my own fault for sending email (?), but I didn't expect to receive spam as a result of that correspondance. I don't know if anybody else has had this experience, but I would hope that it's common courtesy not to pilfer email addresses from a community listserv. In any case, if anybody associated with the Olga Watkins Band is reading this: please remove me from your mailing list.

Neighbors: There has been a skinny light yellow/tan long hair cat hanging around the corner of Heberton and Jackson Street for the last few days. It is very sweet and affectionate, and has wanted to come in the house. We would have let it, except for our dog. Let us know if this is your cat. [Highland Park] orange cat

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but an orange cat was hit and killed by a car in the 900 block of N. Highland Avenue. A passerby moved the remains to the sidewalk in front of my house (923 N. Highland), and my neighbor informs me that the city will come tomorrow to remove them if they are still there. If you are missing a cat of this description, I am so sorry for your loss. Alex West
