Office of Councilman Patrick Dowd, August 2009 Beginning August 2009, the office of Councilman Patrick Dowd will provide periodic updates on Pittsburgh City Council activities and events related to District 7. Council District 7 serves the communities of Friendship, Highland Park, Lawrenceville, Morningside, Stanton Heights, Polish Hill and parts of Bloomfield, East Liberty, Garfield and the Strip District. News and Updates PWSA & Iron City Brewing. On July 27, Councilman Dowd called on the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority to collect $1 million in debt from Iron City Brewing Company. Councilman Dowd introduced legislation <http://legistar.city.pittsburgh.pa.us/detailreport/?key=12056> in July to improve screening and landscaping requirements for car lots and equipment sales in neighborhood business districts. The legislation is at the Planning Commission for approval and then comes back to City Council for a hearing. Some large scale developments do not always require public notice. This technical amendment <http://legistar.city.pittsburgh.pa.us/detailreport/?key=12054> to the zoning code introduced by Councilman Dowd in July, ensures that so-called "Planned Unit Developments" notify adjacent property owners of any development applications. [Highland Park] Daycares?

Hello Members, My stepmother recently had a baby and is having trouble making payments to the daycare the baby is in now. He is only in there part-time, but she is paying almost $500 per month. She is on the waiting list for a subsidy, but it will not be available until march. Does anyone know of any help or a provider that would base the cost on income? She loves the daycare, but it is troublesome when your budget isn't allowing what she is paying. Thanks members for any input:) Francine M. Hi Neighbors, My Daughter Melissa is looking for a few things for her dorm room at Carlow U this fall and thought I would check here first . She has her own room this year as an RA and would like to have a small comfy sort of chair or futon kind of thing (does not have to be anything fancy) and she is also looking for a used TV (not too big) If anyone has either of these laying around and would like to give or sell her at a reasonable price please get back to me! [Highland Park] Kids Activities at Reservoir of Jazz: this Sunday!

Dear Neighbors, We will kick off the Reservoir of Jazz kids activities this year with our second annual Scavenger Hunt!! This event was really fun and a big success last year. Please send your kids to the Highland Park Kids Committee tent during the concert to pick up your list and paper bag and join in the fun! Younger kids will need your supervision during this activity. If you'd like to volunteer, please let me know ASAP. Nevena is out of town, so I'd really appreciate some helpers. This is a low key event, so we probably just need some folks available if younger kids need any assistance. I will make a smaller, simpler list for the younger kids. [Highland Park] asbestos found

I recently purchased a home in HP and come to find out while putting in a new boiler I have asbestos lining all of my hot water pipes in the basement. My ASHI certified inspector never mentioned anything about this. There are parts of the outer coating peeling off and I am worried for the safety of my young family. Do any of you guys have experience with this? I mean the inspector did find asbestos in another part of the house and that was taken care of. I feel really taken advantage of since I was not told about it. I need to remedy this.

Hello Neighbors, I am looking for a "mother's helper" to play with my almost 3-year old daughter while I get some major projects done around the house over the next few weeks. We have found wonderful sitters for nights out, but as I will be at home and will take care of all feeding, potty breaks, etc., I just need a responsible younger girl who would love to play and look after my little lady to keep her out from under my feet.
