Stations of the Cross Artistic Interpretations and Meditations March 17-21 6000 Highland Ave. (The old PNC bank building on the corner of Highland and Penn across from East Liberty Presbyterian) Every year the Open Door (a church that makes its home in the Union Project 801 N. Negley Ave.) seeks to provide an opportunity for budding, emerging and established artists to create artistic interpretations and meditations on the traditional 14 Stations of the Cross. This year we have 18 artists exhibiting. In so doing we also hope to encourage and enrich our neighborhood and its residents through the vision of these visual artists. At around 8 pm this evening my husband and I heard 2 gunshots coming from the direction of our alley (Velie Way) behind our house. We saw no cars in the alley nor heard any speeding away after the sounds. We immediately phoned 911 and reported it. *Four Unique Ceramics Exhibits Open at Union Project in March 2008 * Featuring functional and sculptural ceramic works by locally and nationally acclaimed ceramic artists, four original shows open at the Union Project during the month of March in conjunction with the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) 2008 conference, taking place March 19th – 22nd at the Convention Center in Pittsburgh. Located at 801 N. Negley Ave. at the corner of Stanton Avenue in Pittsburgh's east end, the Union Project, a nonprofit community and arts organization, is housed in a restored historic church, providing a creative and edgy space for these ceramic exhibits. A complimentary reception featuring local musical artists Boca Chica and Lohio, will take place at the Union Project on March 21 from 6:00pm-9:00pm. The following site-specific exhibits can be seen at the Union Project daily from 9 -5 and Wednesday through Saturday 7:00am-9:00pm throughout March 2008. *Tableware from the Neighborhood* features functional ceramics by the Union Project's Ceramics@UP staff members Justin Rothshank, Saeeda Brown and Lindsay Ford. This show, organized by Justin Rothshank, consists of one-of-a-kind decalware, serving dishes, and table settings and will be on display in the Union Project's Atrium. * Union Project Co-op Member Show * is on display in the Corner Gallery, located in the lower level of the Union Project. The show, curated by Justin Rothshank, will highlight a wide variety of functional and sculptural ceramic works by co-op members Joe Delphia, Tim Stavenger, Erica Bertke, Chrissy Chapla, Garret Smith and Ty Temon-Jones. All work in the show was made or fired at the Union Project studio. *Wood Fired Ware: Ceramics by Kiln Building Workshop Instructors* features original work of nationally known clay artists Dale Huffman, Eric Knoche and others, who are teaching a wood fired kiln building workshop in partnership with the Union Project and Laurelville Mennonite Church Center in the days leading up to NCECA. The wood fired sculptural and functional work featured in this show, curated by Justin Rothshank, will be displayed in the Union Project's Board Room. *Cryptae: An Environmental Installation*, an installation of sculpture and greenspace, created by Pandra Williams will be shown in the front yard of the Union Project, on the corner of Stanton and Negely Avenues, March 19-22. Pandra Williams is an artist from Decatur, GA, who will be working on outdoor environmental sculptures that incorporate ceramics and the Union Project's environmental elements. Union Project staff and Ceramics@UP co-op members will have their work featured in more than a dozen NCECA related exhibitions around the city of Pittsburgh, in addition to those held at the Union Project. Ceramics@UP Lead Artist and Union Project Founder Justin Rothshank will be presenting a 30-minute lecture at the NCECA conference titled "Researching, Planning and Implementing a Ceramics Cooperative." This lecture will focus on the research done by the Union Project and students from Carnegie Mellon University in 2005, which let to the creation of the ceramics cooperative studio at the Union Project. The purpose of NCECA, the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts, is to promote and improve the ceramic arts through education, research, and creative practice. NCECA offers programs, exhibitions and publications that are uniquely beneficial and rewarding to its membership of artists, educators, students, patrons, retailers and manufacturers. As a dynamic, member-driven organization, NCECA strives to be flexible in its programming and responsive to the changing needs of its constituency. The picture shows it before the move and if interested, I can send you pictures showing the damage it now has, which is listed below This armoire did not so well in the move and the top half of the armoire shifted and needs to be re-adjusted. Because of that shifting, on the left hand side (when facing it), the press wood pop off to show the four screws that hold the piece together. I managed to save 3 of those four pieces and they could probably be glued back on, but after straightening out the top piece, I would probably put that side against a wall to hide it. Also, one of the legs got lost during the move and the bottom trim/legs got scraped up, so the trim and remaining legs could be removed so that the armoire rests on the frame for the drawers or a brick or something equivalent could be used as the missing leg. All the furniture is located in Avalon 15202 and can be picked up almost anytime, though hopefully within the next week since there is not enough room right now in our house for all of it. Most of the furniture would require a truck or van to move it and at least 2 strong people. Thanks.
