Hi everyone. I'm looking for a reliable, responsible, attentive, smart female who drives her own car and loves to play with kids. I have two very active and fun kids, ages 2 and 3 1/2, and am looking for a babysitter to work occasionally during the day for a few hours and/or on nights and weekends. To hang out and play or run around outside... but not just sit there and watch TV. We have a regular sitter, but she's in college and seems to have a very social schedule... so we're looking for someone to fill in when she's not available. [Highland Park] another car ransacking, with a twist

Last night (Sunday, 11/9), just before midnight, my younger son was walking up the street and noticed two unfamiliar young men walking down our little cul-de-sac street a block or two away from my son. I live on Cordova and it doesn't go anywhere, so there is no reason to be here if you don't live here or haven't come to visit with someone who does. My son decided to walk back to just check on what was happening. Sometime before he got here, one of these young men got into my car (I suspect it was unlocked, we had unloaded a big load earlier in the evening, and been prepping for company and I suspect I forgot to lock the car when we were all done, although I'm not certain of that). My other son's girlfriend was leaving the front door around then and startled them. The younger son, in not the wisest move, followed them to approximately Hampton and Chislett where they went up an alley and before he got there they'd disappeared (cutting through someone's yard? going home? it's even vaguely possible they had a car there). As I said, there were two. From the various party's descriptions (both boys and the girlfriend that startled them), one was a light skinned black, thick featured, somewhere on the short end, between 5' 6" and 5' 9" most likely, wearing a red t-shirt and a black hoodie (if anyone else makes the Schenley connection, it's unlikely as my younger son goes there and would likely have recognized someone from school). The other was thinner featured, darker black, wearing a black hoodie and black shirt, and was not the one who was actually going through my car (although other people on Cordova ought to check their cars to make sure that isn't where the second young man was). The police were called, a report was made, I have not yet figured out that something was stolen, but I haven't done a thorough inventory, either. Amy McCall Cordova Rd.

Hi Neighbors, A few of you have requested this list of contractors. Here's what came my way. Good Luck! Michelle Dan Hinchman is a contractor/friend that has done a lot of superb work at our home. He's redone floors, painted, dry-walled, repaired plaster, built a deck.....this list could go on. He pays a lot of attention to detail and works with integrity and reliability. Chad Carter did our entire basement -- excellent work -- 412-983-8057 We just bought a house in HP, and have used Calebrese Flooring and we were very pleased. Hoover Hoover Contracting Co., Inc. 724-321-2272 Rich Joyce who owns Joycebilt Construction has been the contractor for major things we've been doing to our house inside and out here in Highland Park. He and his people have been wonderful to work with. His base group is partly family, and they are all nice people to have around as well as accomplished at what they do. [Highland Park] Give your leaves to a good cause!

Hi everyone, As most of the leaves are falling now and we're entering the colder time of autumn, Garfield Farms, a community farming initiative in the Garfield area is asking for your leaves! We need a lot of leaves to use for composting to make rich soil which will grow good local organic produce for families here in Pittsburgh. Leaves can take years breaking down in a landfill, but if you give them to us, we'll put them towards a good cause for our community! Please feel free to contact me if you have bags of leaves you're willing to give and I can pick them up, or if you'd like to drop them by yourself, we will be working from 8am-12pm tomorrow morning up at our new site. Just drive up Black St. away from Highland Park and turn left on N. Aiken, go up the hill and take a right on Columbo, then a quick left on Wicklow. Our that block is our new farm site, go to the end and we'll be on the left, you can't miss us. PITTSBURGH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA PERFORMS AT EAST LIBERTY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Monday, November 24 at 7 p.m. PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO) performs a Community Engagement Concert at East Liberty Presbyterian Church on Monday, November 24 at 7 p.m. Resident Conductor Daniel Meyer leads the PSO in a program featuring PSO violinist Lorien Hart as soloist in Beethoven’s Romance No. 1 in G major and the Rogers CAPA Choir performing Vivaldi’s Gloria and Faure’s Pavane. Music by Haydn, Ravel and Bridge complete the program. The November 24 concert is one element of the PSO’s larger Community Engagement relationship with the East Liberty area. The PSO’s interaction with East Liberty also includes the presence of PSO musicians at schools in the neighborhood and regular meetings with a Community Committee, which includes parents of area Pittsburgh Public School students, faith-based representatives, community representatives, and music teachers in the East Liberty area. The PSO’s Community Engagement Program aims to develop and cultivate mutually beneficial, long-term relationships with audiences in Pittsburgh. This successful program helps to educate the PSO about its audiences and their home communities. It also allows the PSO to interact with individuals and break down barriers, helping audiences to gain accessibility, alter perceptions, and understand the relevance of the PSO to their community and own lives. A free, pre-concert student performance takes place prior to the concert, in the East Liberty Presbyterian Church Chapel beginning at 6 p.m. The pre-concert performance features students from Rogers CAPA, Dilworth Traditional Academy and Hope Academy of Music and the Arts. Tickets (adults: $10 in advance and $15 at the door; seniors 60+ and students 18 and under: $5) to this event can be purchased by calling 412.361.5662, or in person at East Liberty Presbyterian Church or at Vintage Senior Center, also in East Liberty. Yesterday, my 10 year old female collie mix escaped from our yard. She has been rather stressed out lately (our older dog was put down a few weeks ago) and had to have a biopsy on Tuesday. My daughter searched for her everywhere and finally found her several hours later in the company of two very nice women who were walking our Leta along Negley Ave. We didn't get their names, but we are eternally grateful for their kindness to Leta.
