We've noticed increased police patrols in our area over the weekend as well as today. Patrol cars have been circling the blocks up and down and around Mellon Street. [Highland Park] CSA (Weekly Box of Farm Veggies) for Sale

We have subscribed to Harvest Valley Farm's Community Supported Agriculture program (http://www.harvestvalleyfarms.com/csa.html) but will be leaving Pgh before the end of the season. This is their third season of CSAs and it's been a wonderful bounty of delicious produce every week. The CSA is a weekly delivery of farm fresh fruits and vegetables delivered on Thursdays to Rippey St. in East Liberty. The cost for the 24 week season is $410 ($17/week) and we will have used 12 weeks (I hope to sell August 23 - November 8). I'd like to sell the half season for $175. I can be somewhat flexible with the dates and they can be flexible with you if you won't be able to pick-up one week either doubling up the following week or having you shop at their farm or at a farmer's market (Sun in Aspinwall or Mon in East Liberty). As a first-step, let's be good neighbors. Part of being a good neighbor is telling your neighbor when they have crossed the line. I have heard dogs barking incessantly for spells longer than a half hour and sometimes for hours. When I have gone to check, I have found dogs just simply barking and not in harm's way. If you hear your neighbor's dogs barking consistently for unreasonable periods of times and at unreasonable times of the day, please (politely) let them know either personally or via an anonymous note. Sometimes the owner of the dogs is simply unaware due to acoustic issues. If that contact gets you no where, then call 911 because there is a city noise ordinance for internal intrusion of sound. [Highland Park] Walks in the Woods - August & September 2007

Let's take a walk in the park! The next "Walk in the Woods" of summer 2007 is this week--Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at 6:30 pm. Meet at the restored fountain and gardens on Reservoir Drive near the intersection of North Highland Avenue and Bunkerhill Street. Please arrive promptly at 6:30 pm so we can begin the walk as scheduled. There is no need to RSVP. The current weather forecast looks nice--but hot. It would be a good idea to bring drinking water. When planning what to wear keep in mind that paths in the park can many times be uneven. If you plan to bring a baby, I suggest using something like a Baby Bjorn instead of a stroller. The exact route we take depends on who shows up. The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy sponsors these walks in the four major Pittsburgh Parks. Each walk is led by volunteer docents who can tell you about what's going on in the park, park history, and can talk about the many different types of plants you'll see in the parks. The last walk in Highland Park for the summer is scheduled for September 16 at 4:00 pm. This walk will focus on park and area history. The schedule for the other parks is as follows: Frick: August 8 & September 9; Riverview: August 18 & September 23; and Schenley: August 22 & September 2. (The 2nd date in each case is also a special history walk.) If leading walks like this interests you, please let me know because docent opportunities are available. [Highland Park] Free sofa and armchair

Howdy, neighbors! We are getting a new sofa and chair Wednesday, and I am seeking a home(or homes) for our old ones ASAP. I am offering them on the neighborhood list first, but if I don't get a response within the next couple of days I will either offer them on Pittsburgh Freecycle or to Salvation Army. So if you have an interest, please respond soon! Our house is smoke-free and dog/cat-free, by the way. Here are the way-too-many details: Sofa: 85" wide, 35" deep, approximately 29" tall at the back (cushions poke up a little higher, but they sit forward of the back piece). It is three cushions across with rolled armrests. It comes with two matching cushions. The covering is a cotton twill/duck with a floral pattern of hydrangeas, peonies and leaves in sage, dark green, tan, light pink, dark pink and cream tones. There are some tears in the cushion covers, but we currently have them hidden by turning them upside down, and there is some fraying on the piping of the cushions. I think that it would do fine in a home without kids, but I don't think that it could survive another 5-year-old boy like mine without a slipcover. I don't know the maker, but I know that my mother-in-law (from whom I inherited it) bought it as a set with the chair, which was made by Broyhill. Excellent napping sofa, by the way. Chair: 33" wide, 38"deep, 31" tall. Very comfortable chair for watching TV. It is wide enough that my 5-year-old and 7-year-old can sit in it side-by-side. The covering is a cotton twill/duck striped in sage green and cream. The cushions and arm rests are in good condition (no fraying or tears), but they have some light staining. It's main problem is that a seam has come undone where the vertical cushion attaches to the hard back of the chair and the stuffing is trying to come out. I'm lazy, so I just keep throw an afghan over the back, but someone could probably tack it back with an upholstery needle and some strong thread. E-mail if you are interested in one or both! [Highland Park] Web site maintenance

The Highland Park web site at <http://www.highlandparkpa.com/> has been updated from CivicSpace (the old download version, not the service) to Drupal proper. Since this was a major Drupal upgrade (4.x -> 5.x) there are minor issues that still need to be addressed (such as that the old theme no longer works--it needs to updated to work with the new code). Another problem is that the old image gallery seems to have disappeared (but the individual images are there) and the month-overview calendars seem to be blank. The Highland Park web site is maintained on a strictly volunteer status. These issues will be addressed as time permits. Rudy
