[Highland Park] Panhandlers at Jackson & Heberton

Late this afternoon while stopped at Heberton & Jackson, we noticed 5 or 6 kids about 10-13 years old, one holding a plastic wash bucket. One came up to the car window asking for money and others followed and surrounded the car. I asked them to move away from the car since I got the feeling that this was more panhandling than a school fund raiser.. I didnt even see a candy bar, hose and rags, glass of lemonade, written material or adult supervision. They were so close to the car that we were concerned for their safety. They could have been struck by the side view mirror or had their toes run over. We called the police and they came about 10 minutes later with the red light flashing, and seemed to be questioning one of them. I am glad the police came so quickly. Marty Harkins
