Tomorrow (Saturday!) is the Highland Park House Tour. This is our chance for our neighborhood to shine! Please help out any visitors that may look lost. Please park your vehicles in any off-street spaces that you have in order to maximize the on-street parking for our guests. And please pick up any litter that you notice around the neighborhood so we can make the best possible impression. Tickets will be on sale tomorrow at St. Andrews Episcopal Church beginning at 11am and the houses will be open until 7pm for the self-guided tour. Enjoy! Amy Maceyko

[Highland Park] House break-in on Heberton St.

Today between 11:00 am and 3:00pm the house at 1375 Heberton St. was broken into. The front door was pried open with a crow bar. A few electronic items were taken including a blue Dell Inspiron Laptop with a lot of pictures and videos of our son, and a Minolta 450 digital camera with more of the same on it as well. According to the police officer who came to talk with us, another house on Bunkerhill was broken into around the same time. He said that in this area break ins seem to happen in sprees like this. [Highland Park] Loan of a microscope needed

My cadette Girl Scout troop is working on a "Sea to Shore" badge that includes studying sand under a microscope. Does anyone have a microscope that they can lend out the weekend of October 14th. The troop meets at Sacred Heart in Shadyside but the girls (ages 10 to 14) come from 5 different schools and several live in Highland Park. We will take very good care of it! I'm a chemistry teacher and I was wondering if it's possible to get a tour of the reservoir and the water filtering facilities? If anybody knows of whom I should contact about a tour, please let me know. We'd like to have the tour within the next couple of weeks while it's still warm outside, so the sooner the better! Thanks. Greetings. I don't want to be inflammatory in any way, but as someone with two teenaged boys and who homeschooled until quite recently, I think that the previous statement regarding reporting school-aged students should be caveated in some way - it is not appropriate to assume that all "school aged" children who are outside of a school building during the day are engaged in illegal behaviors. There needs to be some sort of "rule of reason" here. If they are ducking into places they do not belong, or hiding their presence, then this should be reported. Otherwise, they may be on legitimate business and should not be traumatized by being brought to the detention center. Many things put students outside of school at odd hours - my older son will begin an internship in the near future that will take him out of school at noon for an entire trimester. Orthodontist's appointments and related activities have often required my boys to be on the streets alone during school hours. And, when my children were homeschooled, sometimes they would choose to walk to a store or to the library in the middle of the day, and this was appropriate behavior. Amy McCall Cordova Rd.
