Thanks to everyone who made suggestions about dry cleaners. Now I have too many choices! Anyway, I've tried consolidate your comments and have listed the results alphabetically. The number in parentheses reflects the number of people who mentioned that particular dry cleaners. Costello's Cleaners (6) at 1806 Chislett St (in the little business district, about 1/2 block down from Stagnos on the other side of the street) - (412) 362-2330: “They're great and they pick up and deliver.” “Very friendly … and their work seems fine so far.” “A great dry cleaner … Eddie Costello is the owner and he is there 7 days a week, until early evening. He delivers for free (and will pick up if needed). We have used his cleaners for 12 years....He's great.” “Eddy picks up and delivers - and since we have been doing business with him for years, we often leave our dry cleaning out and he leaves our clean stuff - we pay him when we see him = it's a great convenience and he's a great guy.” Don Royal (2) in Shadyside on the corner of Maryland and Walnut in the pink building: "They have an excellent woman tailor as well.” “They do wet cleaning on request, i.e., don't use perc. They are the only ones we've found with that option. I've never had a problem with things shrinking or being ruined. Been using them 7 years.” Giant Eagle (1) at the Waterworks in Aspinwall: “They always do a great job. AND are very fast!” My Cleaners (4) on Freeport Road in Aspinwall “before you get to the Italian store” or in “the business district en route to WaterWorks Mall”: “They are pretty inexpensive, have a 3 day turn around, and work on a prepaid basis.” “ Great and reasonable!” “I've been reasonably impressed. Although there's no such thing as a rush job, they have caught falling hems and things like that, which I appreciate.” Northumberland Cleaners (1) in Squirrel Hill between Shady & Murray right near the Police Station. "Not as convenient as Tom's but excellent service." Shadyside Valet (3) on S. Highland Ave (in the little shopping complex on your left just after you cross the bridge over the busway - close to Casbah restaurant and across from Buffalo Blues) - “a good one” In Point Breeze on the corner of Reynolds and Gettysburg (1) THANKS EVERYONE!

[Highland Park] looking for an oversized flatbed scanner

Hi, I'm looking for an oversized flatbed scanner in order to make a copy of an antique photograph. Kinko's only has scanners with rollers for oversized sizes. The piece is roughly 2 ft by 1 ft (series of 5 4x6 photos mounted together) If anyone knows of a printing service with this kind of ability or any suggestions please let me know--I'd like to get the duplicate looking as close to the original as possible. [Highland Park] The Fountain

Greetings, Highland Park Neighbors! As many of you will no doubt have read in Saturday's Post-Gazette, the reconstructed reflecting pool and fountain are now finally complete: <http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/04241/369259.stm> I'm fairly certain that the reporter is wrong when he wrote that the fountain was originally built in 1930. Photos and postcards dated 1900 and earlier show that the fountain has been there all along. It has been reconstructed several times, so perhaps that's where the date of 1930 came from. Anyway, the fountain was running Saturday morning when I was able to snap a few photos of my own. I've updated the Highland Park web site to include a current photo as well as the ones from 2002 and circa 1900 that were already there. The photo from 2002 may be of interest to new residents of the area, since it shows the reflecting pool being used the way it was for over 30 years: as a giant flower pot! <http://www.highlandparkpa.com/park/entry.htm> Further landscaping work around the fountain should begin soon. The entire area around the fountain is supposed to be complete in the spring of 2005. By the way, the fountain is not yet running continuously--it was not running yesterday evening or at all today that I saw. I don't know whether it will run regularly before spring. Rudy

River Valley School (nursery to grade 6), an independent private school formerly located in Regent Square, has just moved to the Highland Park area, to the Vintage mansion across from Home Depot. The school offers an integrated curriculum with a hands-on learning philosophy, foreign language instruction, small classrooms, a multicultural school community and an extended day program for children nursery to grade 6, with plans to add grade 7 next year and grade 8 the following year.
